New Computer Upgrades Coming to First Choice

This process will take more time than the usual registration process. We apologize for the inconvenience and the delays that patients are likely to experience. We are asking patients to be patient with the staff who are being trained to use the new system. We will be asking all patients to fill out a new registration form, and to bring proof of income as well as their co-payment. The health centers will switch to the new system in stages, beginning in July and ending in October. The first site to make the switch is South Broadway Health Center beginning on July 11, 2011.

Electronic Health Records Provide a More Complete Picture of Care

As First Choice takes its first steps toward having Electronic Health Records for all its patients, we realize
this change will require patients and staff to adapt to a new way of working together. Electronic Health
Records (EHR) represent a new era in patient care. No more paper charts! EHR is designed to improve
patient safety, quality of care, provider efficiency and patient satisfaction. The care providers will have
computer access to records when they need to look up previous conditions, current test results or other
information. The goal is to place all medical information where it is readily accessible by anyone
providing care, either within the First Choice Community Healthcare system, or between our primary
care centers and hospitals.
With EHR, caregivers will be able to see everything the patient has been treated for by a primary care
doctor in addition to what medicines the patient has been prescribed. It provides a more complete
A project of this magnitude has challenges - getting everyone trained even as the infrastructure is being
built and streamlined daily. The first step is the process of re-registering all our patients into the new
system as they arrive for appointments. This process will be completed by November. In 2012, we will
start the process of making all the health records electronic. It represents a big investment for First
Choice Community Healthcare and is critical to the success of our patient service and quality mission.
