First Choice Hosts White House/US Health Dept. Forum

More than 50 people attended a forum hosted by First Choice Community Healthcare in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and White House Office of Public Engagement.  The forum discussed two new consumer health care websites and provided an update on the Affordable Care Act.

More than 50 representatives of numerous health and social service organizations attended the forum, which included a live demonstration of the consumer tools and information available on and, the first website in Spanish of its kind to help consumers take control of their health care by connecting them to new information and resources that will help individuals, families, and small businesses access quality, affordable health care coverage.

For the first time ever the site includes price estimates for private insurance policies, allowing consumers to easily compare health insurance plans – putting consumers, not their insurance companies, in charge by providing one-stop shopping and taking the guesswork and confusion out of buying insurance.

The forum participants provided input into how the website can be even more helpful to families in New Mexico seeking health care.

The Affordable Care Act, signed into law by President Obama, represents a new day for American consumers in our health care system and marks a crucial turning point for health care in the Latino community by targeting the very issues preventing them from achieving better health and extending care to up to 9 million Latinos across the country.
